BIO

My name is Brett Smrz. I have quite the interesting life story so far, and I am only 19. I live in Coeur d' Alene, ID and I am a die hard racer. I have been racing for about 6 years now, and have decided to make that my career. I raced go-karts nationally for 4 seasons, and won 9 national kart championships and 2 grand national races. I made my name well known in the karting scene, so I decided to move on the auto racing world! The first series I started out in was the SCCA Northwest Region in a Formula Ford 1600. I was also competing in the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup at the same time. It was all going very well, as I had a 1st place in the Formula Ford and a 3rd place in the MX-5 Cup car at Houston in only one race in each series. I had an unfortunate accident about one week after the MX-5 race at Houston. When I got home, I went to my friends house, and we were messing around on the trampoline. We decided to take it to higher heights, and we climbed up onto the balcony. I did a flip off of the balcony to the trampoline (about 13 ft.) and when I landed, my tibea shattered right below the left knee cap, my nerve was severely cut, and my artery was severed. After 9 surgeries in 13 days, I had to get my leg amputated about 8 in. below the knee. That wouldn't sop me though! I was back racing in the car 3 months after the accident, in fact! My first three races back in the Formula Ford 1600, I won every race and set a track record in the process. Racing has been going well ever since, as I have won the Jim Russell Championship at Infineon Raceway the past two seasons in a row. I was also chosen to compete in England as a representative of the Team USA Scholarship last October, which turned out to be a lot of fun, and of great benefit to my career. My father is a stunt coordinator in the film industry, and I have also decided to follow in his footsteps in that career as well. I have been doing a lot of stunt work this past year (mainly stunt driving), and it has been tons of fun. My last two movies were The Surrogates, and Knight and Day. Be sure to check them out! If you would like to follow me on my racing/stunt career, please visit www.BrettSmrz.com every now and then! I write blogs whenever I have a race weekend or a stunt job. I will be racing in the Jim Russell Championship Series again this year. The prize package to the champion is much bigger than the last couple years, as the champion wins a fully funded season in the F2 Series in Europe. Hopefully my winning streak continues, and I bring home the championship again! -Brett Smrz
