I have access to both Cinema 4d r10 and 3ds Max 2009 but i am unsure what to devote my time to learning. Any suggestions. I do still graphic (not animation if that makes a difference in the choice). I've used blender for a while and like it, but its not as friendly as the other two it seems. I don't need anything ridiculously complex for modeling either (thank you Poser).

c4d isnt that huge, and is only in recent years being considered by actual designers, not idiot fucks who use it to make shitty ass renders. if you go to design schools and stuff, they all start you off with 3dsm and it's considered a stepping stone 3d program, but if you're only trying to learn for the online art communities then c4d is the way to go since it is far easier to learn and you will learn simple concepts very quickly

2009 Max its impressive and its the industry standard. I use C4D and its very easy to learn, has a very comprehensive texture system. Still right now if I was starting, I would go with MAX; or lightwave, the extra effort in learning its very much worth it.

I've seen lots of Pro people who use c4d, they even used Bodypaint and some c4d to create spiderman + ghost rider. Its easier to use, if you can grasp it right though it still works very well, but if your actually trying to realisitically model something 3dsm is probably a little better. Maya is the best right now imo. If your just going to be doing random abstract shit though c4d and 3dsm are both fine

I can speak on this because I have been using max for 10 years and just sat down to cinema due to a new dayjob having to using cinema this program is pretty cool and easy to learn but the tools that I use most often in max is a pain in the ass in this app.

i myself have used C4D, but at my school i'll get 3ds max. evran basically said it all.
though i'm not sure about maya being the new artists choice.

Thanks,
After playing around with some friends stuff I think I prefer the Cinema UI. I did like a lot of the plug-ins that could be attached to 3DS though.

I am still on C4D 7 and 3D Studio Max 6, it does what I need it to, and I can't be bothered to learn all the new features.

C4d has the best renderer actually, it isn't heavy on your computer at all.
I started using c4d and 3dsmax and I found Cinema4d was easier to get started and learn features and stuff.
