So about 1:20am last night I'm sitting around, watching t.v. and what not getting ready for bed when I look outside for a second (don't even know why) and I noticed the sky was red/orange and unusually bright. Obviously that isn't normal, so I checked the weather. I soon found out there was a tornado warning for my area and that a tornado was spotted a few miles from here but was not traveling directly towards us. Being the weather paranoid person that I am, I kept an eye on some weather stations that were reporting on the storm. If you didn't know, this year's tornado count has been unusually high and I was thinking to myself "this town hasn't been hit by a tornado yet the sirens go off a lot, what if we're overdue? Crap, I hope I didn't jynx it.". So maybe around 1:40-1:50 I'm looking out the windows and I see lightning - but that wasn't all I saw. About 200-300 feet away I saw something very weird. It looked like a cloud dipping down into a funnel shape. I stood frozen for a moment till lightning showed the cloud dipping even farther down. My wost fear had actually become a reality. There was a funnel coming straight down into what appeared to be my neighbor's land. As soon as I saw it my first thought was "Should I take a photo of th-" but before I could finish my thought I was down the stairs into the basement. The tornado sirens went off literally 10-20 seconds after I spotted the cloud.
I'm alright, shook up still, but alright.
Has anyone else here been in a similar situation (doesn't have to be a tornado)? And if so, how did it happen for you?

Wow, reading this makes me happy we don't have tornadoes here.. although i always love heavy weather/lightning.
Is your house still alive and everything?
As soon as I saw it my first thought was "Should I take a photo of th-"
lol, probably would've thought the same thing.

Eh, I'm lucky enough to live in shitty PA, we don't get tornados here.
Must have been a frightening experience my friend.

Ya, my family and I were driving a couple hours east of here, where it is a little more flat, it was night time, it was also unusually colored outside. I thought to myself weather we could be passing through an area where tornados could hit. Its started pouring down rain, so my mother and father changed to the weather station. It said there was a tornado warning in the county we were in. We kept driving, not really thinking much of it. I was looking around outside, actually admiring the sky because of its color. All of a sudden, I see lighting strike behind us, and get a glimpse of something unusual, so I keep my eyes on the area behind us, wondering what it was. Then several minutes later, lightning strikes again, and I see the unusual object. It was a tornado. My heart practically skipped a beat. I told my parents, we pulled over, they looked at it. It was decently far behind us, and moving south, not west as we were, so we kept driving. I knew nothing was going to happen, but I kept my eyes peeled to the road behind us anyway. It was scary because the only time you could see the tornado fully was when lightning stuck. Everytime it was in a different spot. I thought to myself that everytime I was expecting the lightning to strike and the tornado be right behind us.

Pictures wouldn't have worked as it was too dark, unless I had amazing reflexes and got it right when the lighting stuck. Ya, I was scared for sure, but I knew I was going to be alright. No I couldn't hear it, all the windows were rolled up, didn't think to even roll them down for a second to be honest.
