Vector art - Illy or PS?

I'm starting to get into more vector art etc.

Should I learn Illy or do it in PS? If I learn Illy, how long would it take me, as I don't have that much time with sports, school, and stuff

Re: Vector art - Illy or PS?

jup, illy is much nicer and you have more control over your shapes.
And you can print it at any size if you plan on printing it someday.

Re: Vector art - Illy or PS?

The correct way to Vector is with Illustrator and anything else like Vector that's done in PS is a Vexel. so go for Illy if you wanna do Vector :p

Illustrator yea.

It depends how long it will take you on how much time you wanna spent at it... Read a lot of tuts indeed.

Re: Vector art - Illy or PS?

learn how to use pen tool then it doesnt matter what you use, because the basic method is the same in both illustrator and photoshop. but as vawx said, illy is beneficial for printing purposes on large canvases. you could do the same in photoshop but you would need to set a large size to begin with and 300dpi for sure

exactly. so pretty much illy if you ever would be thinking of printing it.  it is a little annoying to learn but if your ok with photoshop it will be fine.  just fool around with it.

Photoshop makes vector also. Not just vexel. Everything you make an unrasterised shape in Photoshop, it is vector. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong or is misinformed. Photoshop CAN create vector images.

As for my own personal preference, I'd go with Illustrator. Its tough to use at the start, especially if you are used to Photoshop but once you learn illy, its perfect.

I think the reason they call it vexel is because if you zoom in all the way in photoshop you can see obvious pixels, while in illustrator it's rather smooth with no pixelation.

but if you ever want to edit the shape, you must rasterize it. and then it is no longer vector.

You can still modify/remove/add anchor points with photoshop.
