The Final Armistice

In Human history, an Armistice was a situation in a war where the warring parties agreed to stop fighting. It was not necessarily an end to hostilities. Often it was a breather for the war machines to oil themselves and prepare for the debauchery all over again.
Towards the later stages of humanity's brief stay on Earth, mankind was stuck in a permanent state of Armed Armistice. By the time the 21st century creeped upon them, the governing councils of most nations had organised themselves into cartels and between them ensured a state of unease throughout their dominions. The profitable trade in guns and weapons was the primary thread that bound this evil world order together and helped them hold sway over the skeletal last strands of a once mighty planet.
