Re: PC or Mac

WOOOO A MAC FANBOY!

Not everyone likes to work automaticly with a wacom. I got a great wacom, but I really don't like to work with it when Im doing other stuff then design. I still prefer a good mouse.

The mouse... well, when you put the right mouseclick on, it's quite ok, but the cursor on the screen works different then the PC cursor. I think Apple tried to make it too smooth. I prefer the moouse & cursor in Windows, since that is just more fluently.

I too think the mac is overrated, especially now it barely matters if you use a mac or a pc. I know design companies who had a whole Apple structure, but then decided to go back to powerful PC's. It's just; a Mac automaticly gives the visitor a feeling they are somewhere special.

I have a pc and it works like a charm.. uber fast etc for like 830+250 euros.. its even cheaper.. Ive tried a mac at a design school and they seriously are shit.. especially the mouse and keyboard :S

Wacom/graphic tablet maybe Aloé?

and the mouse thing it's like all in this life...time and practice (even have a decent sex session).

i'm working on Mac for a year & half but not at home. tomorrow i'll receive my own one and i'll start the party.

by the way Aloe, i bought my iMAC only +200 euros the money you said...and definitely...i like more have all in 1.

about overrated...well...all photography studios i worked, all advertising agencies i made practices i've been: they used MAC.
don't ask me why but i don't think this kind of people is in condition to buy something cause is "overrated".

the monitor can be calibrated.

Re: PC or Mac

It really depends what you are doing; I would say Windows for 3D stuff, and Mac for Illustration/Graphic Design/Photo-Retouching.

Re: PC or Mac

It^s not that Mac or PC is better, it depends on the hardware. And what most people dont know: Apple uses old and crappy hardware, so Win wins for me. No Mac on this world can beat my workstation.

Well but I still like Apple and Macs, I've got a MacBook myself, but Apple should stop let people pay just for the logo .. It's not that intuitive, not that special. Most people never ask themselves where Apple got their ideas from ... yeah now you got it .. wink

Re: PC or Mac

MAC's used to use powerPC for a long time, but they're into intel and stuff now.. they don't use old hardware anymore.. I mean, their mac mini's come with nVidia 9400 cards... better than most windows PCs that you buy out of the box for over $1000. in fact, in my last dell mag that I got, a really bad PC cost $2000 that had all the same hardware as a $1200 macbook. if you buy a dell precision T3500 workstation, you get: no monitor, 1GB ram, a 265 gpu, and an 80gb harddrive. and not to mention it comes with vista/sucksta. the mac mini comes with 2GB ram, a 9400, a 320GB hdd, 2.0ghz processor and it's like $2-300 less. sure you're comparing a mac mini to a WORKSTATION, but the hdd, ram, etc. in proportion to the workstation is not even close to comparison. if you look at a an equal-value mac product you get:

Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 Memory
120GB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics

and you just beat the workstation's deal from dell. now, I never buy from dell, i'm using it as an example excluding home-built PCs. imo mac's are more powerful for anything graphic/video related. PCs get buggy/randomly lag on a ton of shit. I used to use a dual intel xeon proc powered workstation with crossfire FireGL ATI card something's that totalled 2GB, and it still had memory issues when I was running photoshop and video rendering software. every time I closed it, it'd give me memory reference errors. never seen one on a mac.

Re: PC or Mac

Maybe your Station was crap. Mine's not. I build it myself. for less than 1200 Bucks.

MY Workstation:
Intel Core i7 running @ 4,2 GHz
24 GB RAM DDR3 (upgradable to 32, even if no one needs it, at least not yet wink)
ATI Radeon HD4870 X2 and a FireGL (work over a switch, can choose which card is used in windows) gonna switch that 4870 out by a new 4890 big_smile

We all know that you pay by buying a Dell just the logo, like Apple.

imo mac's are more powerful for anything graphic/video related.

Total junk.

oh i see it clearly now.
we all need 24GB of RAM to make the same with a MAC with 8GB?

and yes, you have a great equipment, but if i buy that PC in my country can cost me like 2000 euros easy = 1600-1700 $

lets talk about noise, OS and the screen.
noise in MAC is minimum. the OS is simply safe and don't need 2GB of RAM like Vista for example to running good (a bad fake of MAC by the way).
i work with 3-4 different screens: university, my old 22" tft and the new 24" iMAC.
with a good calibration in both screens i see the things more clarity and live colors on MAC.

i'm not a MAC snob or geek. i only changed and i see differences. about space the iMAC with "no-tower" is very comfortable too tongue

Re: PC or Mac

Well it always depends on someones personal opinion, so we won't ever get ssome kind of arrangement and this is why I hate the "PC or MAC ?" Question.

But there are a few things I want to make clear:

Why is Mac so safe ? Well it doesn't make any benefit in writing Malware for so "many" Mac users. In fact. and that  is a point that so much people don't want to understand, the Windows Kernel is much safer than the System of a Mac. But this is only one point.

Windows Vista needs a lot of hardware to work properly, that's true, but if you cinfigure it right, and that's the main reason why so many people fail with Windows, than it's safe, stable and fast as hell. A Mac runs runs runs, but you can't change anything there, because it's made for people who don't want or don't have the time, to keep it clean themselves. Therefore I prefer to call it Windows for dummies, because it's nothing other. Well i'd love to have all those cool shortcuts on my pc, but hey even that can be arranged.

I love Mac's, they are stylish and simple, but nothing more. All those people who think that you can do so much more on a mac don't know anything. Some people just may work better on a Mac, but that has again nothing to do with the OS.

And believe me, not even the 32 GB RAM Mac beats my Machine, I tested it wink

But hey, everyone has a different view, so let's stop here arguing on nothing wink

Re: PC or Mac

It was never a PC vs Mac question tbh, it was a "Why do mags etc rave on about how a Mac is a must without giving a definitive reason?"
